Anarchismus und Technologie
Uri Gordon, anarchistischer Theoretiker und Aktivist sowie Autor des
Buches „Hier und Jetzt“ Anarchistische Praxis und Theorie thematisiert
in der Veranstaltung die Ambivalenz heutiger AnarchistInnen in ihrem
Verhältnis zur Technologie. Auf der einen Seite sind AnarchistInnen an
Kampagnen im Widerstand gegen die Einführung neuer Technologien
beteiligt, z. B. gegen gentechnisch modifizierte Pflanzen, gegen
Überwachungs- und Kriegstechnologie. Andererseits findet bei
AnarchistInnen einer der am weitesten entwickelten High-Tech-Bereiche,
Computer Software und Internet, begeisterten Zuspruch. Uri Gordon wird
die Frage zur Diskussion stellen, wie wir eine Technologiekritik
formulieren können, die in sich kohärent und theoretisch haltbar und
zugleich mit zentralen politischen Zielen von AnarchistInnen vereinbar
ist?
Re-examining the politics of technology
This presentation seeks to open a discussion around the curious
ambivalence towards technology that continues to trouble the radical and
anarchist Left. To move beyond the simplistic opposition between
Promethean celebration and primitivist rejection, I offer some insights
informed by contemporary Science and Technology Studies (STS), in particular the concept of sociotechnical assemblage – a key concept in STS
that articulates the social as consisting in associations between human
and non-human agencies. This concept offers a complex account of the
inherence of social relations in technological design and deployment.
Essential to the contemporary expression of sociotechnical assemblages
are the forms of ‘slow violence’ latent within technological legacies of
the petromodernstate form, which have produced many of the ecological
conditions in which social movements now struggle with various forms of
oppression. Such a perspective allows radicals to judge technologies
according to their promotion of hierarchical or nonhierarchical social
practices, leading to three options for action: abolitionism, guarded
adoption, and active promotion.
